Here are some Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to be a professional chef?
Our professional chef’s program is a full time 12 months intensive course with a focus on the history, skill set and responsibilities and operational management of a kitchen. By taking this programme students also gain a strong understanding and knowledge of classic culinary techniques and cuisine. The course includes a 9 months practical and theory programme and a 3 months apprenticeship programme with some of the best chefs in the city.
Do you have baking & pastry courses?
We offer short and long term courses in baking & patisserie. These courses take place on our campus and are currently unavailable online.
What are the minimum requirements?
To enroll you must have a high school diploma or equivalent, evidence of english language proficiency. No prior culinary experience is required. Applicants* must also be 16 years or older.
* = with exception of young chef summer school applicants ages 8-15 years
Can kids enroll at SOCA?
Yes, the Young Chef Summer School Program (YCSS) is ideal for kids aged 8-15years with a variety of course options to suit their interests.
Can I hire a private chef from your institution?
We currently do not offer private chef services. However we are happy to speak to you about our sister companies and what we have to offer.
Do you offer venue hire?
Our 7 stationed ultra modern kitchen is available to all groups interested in hosting private culinary events. Click here to view our venue hire rates and more.
Do I need cooking experience to enroll?
No. Our classes/programs start by building a strong foundation of cooking skills. No matter your level of experience, our tutors and chefs are attentive and will guide you towards excellence .
What’s the difference between chef training programs and culinary arts programs?
A chef training programme focuses on the holistic duties of a chef from menu creation, food preparation and business management while culinary arts focuses only on cooking skills and techniques of a chef’s career.
