Kudakwashe Makoni or as he is popularly known ‘The Black Chef’ is one of Zimbabwe’s top chefs & a celebrity chef in his own right as well…” I have been avidly passionate about cooking since I was 12, however my earliest culinary memories go back to when I was 6 and my mom would make me help out with Saturday breakfast & lunch. After moving to the US for college and having studied Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology and my second degree in Political Science, I decided to follow my passion after a series of life changing events. I went on to pursue a Culinary Arts Management degree from the Culinary Institute of America (Greystone Campus in St Helena, California).

My culinary journey has allowed me to live and work in the US, Malaysia, UAE, Bahrain and now Ghana. I own & run the brand The Black Chef, Signature Bespoke Catering, Dhonanzi Donuts back in Zimbabwe and I’m very active on social media with a great following on Instagram and Facebook. I have been a professional chef since 2009 and I have tonnes of restaurant pre-opening experience. I have a flair for fusion cuisine and love cooking with elements of American, African, Mexican, Arabic and Asian cuisines with my French and Italian training background.
